Cows
by Lisa McIntosh

Memories of shady trees
and lying on my back
Telling you what you want to hear
my fiction becomes fact

Shadows from the darkened sky
rest upon your face
I remember how you used to glow
when we came here to this place

But now it's only me and you
and together,
we're alone...
Oh, how I wish
for what it's worth
Till all the cows come home

Oh, how I wish
for what it's worth
Till all the cows come home.

BELOVED APRIL
(for Jacqueline)
by John A. Swearingen

Now it begins again
     in days of lengthening light
sweet songs of the robin
     and crickets in the night

Awakening a heart
     asleep amidst the snow
feeling the chill depart
     when springtime's zephyrs blow

O, joy for when we gaze
     upon this seasons' might
pink cherry blossom days
     and lilac fragrant nights

O, joy for the stream that sings
     a madrigal as it roams
when the northbound goose is winging
the sun to his summer home

New birth, new joy, O life
     of the resurrected sun
in vanquishing winter's strife
     we see what we've become

When the meadows are a'flower
     with melodies from the glen
then we achieve the hour
     when we are young again

O, joy for how I feel
     so full of sinewy zest
enthusiastic zeal
when all this world says yes

And I'll forever run
     through fields of asphodel
whene'er against there comes
     my beloved April.

Not a day of silence...
by CK Hutchens

May this be a day of joy and not a day of silence hidden somewhere within our shame!

It is a day of elections and I hold my breath so very carefully in anticipation oh so true!

Will the people see and understand, or vote due to the fancy themes and carefully devised schemes?

Will people assume, or check the resume and some things one and more, prior to presuming all things heard and seen are the golden facts written somewhere in the realm of truth?

I don't know what they'll do...

I can only hope, and say a prayer... 'cause God Bless us one and all... this is our life and future, too, that we do gamble on, and upon, as we give our vote to this one or that one, and then wait for the results and the results of the results.  Only then will we know if our vote was right or wrong and just how rightly so it was!

Sing Away the Night
by CK Hutchens

A night so cold... a shiver in the dark... my thoughts so sad and lonely, as desperation mocks and taunts me in cruel delight.  Dare I move?  Dare I hope!  Dare I say a pray or two?

I snuggle deep within the warm covers and pray for comfort from above.

My whispers are hoarse.  My tears warm.  The shivers mount... and then I gasp in agony of all that has been and all that may come to be.  Why has this been?  What more will there be?  Can my shoulders bear anymore or is the burden to drop me to my knees in utter despair and defeat?

Within the moment of my tears, I feel the answers fading into some forbidden shadows, as I slip... slip... slip into a sleep of silent darkness where no comfort embraces or caresses.  How long I linger there, I do not know.  Nor do I know what pulls me from its depths into another day...  but another day I have come to see.  Another day I have been given to embrace and to praise.  And with the sun rising, I touch the morning in delight, as butterflies do take flight and birds sing away the night.
